Stunning show by Indians at the Indian Wells ATP Masters event, USA: Career best win for Prajnesh Gunneswaran

March 11: Stealing the show, Indian athletes have proved that competing against them is not an easy task. In tennis, Indian qualifier Prajnesh Gunneswaran achieved the biggest win of his career.


 

94th seeded Prajnesh splendidly knocked world number 18 Nikoloz Basilashvili out of the Indian Wells ATP Masters event in the USA.

The glorious victory of Prajnesh came after an eye-catching game of 2 hours and 32 minutes. Playing his maiden singles main draw at this level, Prajnesh secured a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 win over Georgian Nikoloz.

India's Prajnesh Gunneswaran recently achieved his career-best ranking, rising to 94th in the latest world ranking.

For the third round, Prajnesh will now face world number 89 Croatia's Ivo Karlovic.

Meanwhile, India's Rohan Bopanna is also not very far from Prajnesh. Bopanna, who remains at 38th rank in doubles ranking, advanced to the second round with partner Denis Shapovalov.

The pair impressively knocked second-seeded pair of Scotland's Jamie Murray and Brazil's Bruno Soares with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in their opening match.

They will now take on star pairing of Novak Djokovic and Fabio Fognini today for second round.
