Yancheng, March 22: Ripping though a chemical plant in the eastern China, a powerful explosion killed at least 48 people and injured more than 90 people in the city of Yancheng. Marking one of the worst industrial accidents in the years, yesterday’s blast at the Tainjiayi Chemical plant continued almost for more than 24 hours, when the fire-fighters are still battling small fires.
 
 
Local authorities said earlier that dozens of fire trucks and hundreds of fire fighters rushed to the scene after the blast was reported around midnight on Thursday. The explosion was powerful enough for the seismological bureau to detect a small earthquake in the area, according to state media.
Airing the dramatic surveillance, the social media bursted out with cell phone videos of windows blown out in nearby buildings at the time of blast and the witnesses telling the impact that could be felt as far as 5 kilometers away and others saying they suffered cuts from broken glass.

Meanwhile, several schools situated near to the chemical plant, Tianjiayi, including a kindergarten less than a mile away prompted some concerns and anger abide, stated the official report.
The chemical that caused the explosion was benzene, a highly flammable and toxic compound classified as a carcinogen, the officials meanwhile confirmed adding that the pesticide factory failed a government safety inspection last year.

Local environmental officials, who set up monitoring devices throughout the industrial park and nearby areas after the blast, said Thursday that heavy wind had created favorable condition for toxic air to dissipate.
Meanwhile Chinese President Xi Jinping reportedly said authorities must step up action to prevent such incidents from happening and find out the cause of the blast as quickly as possible. "There have recently been a series of major accidents, and all places and relevant departments must fully learn the lessons from these”, he added.
