Indian Navy signifies true essence of brotherhood while helping Mozambique, have a look

Maputo, March 22: Pledging to be together during a crisis, on the request of Mozambique, First Training Squadron of Indian Navy Sujata, Sarathi and Shardul operating in the Southern Indian Ocean were diverted to Port Beira. The request seeks to provide Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to the local population post the devastation caused by cyclone 'IDAI'.


 

Indian Navy posted a video in Navy personnel are helping the cyclone hit sufferers which struck the coast of Mozambique on 15 March 2019, the ships of the First Training Squadron namely IN Ships Sujata and Shardul and ICGS Sarathi operating in the Southern Indian Ocean were diverted to Port Beira, Mozambique.

 

One Chetak helicopter was disembarked at Beira airport on Tuesday and undertook a sortie for aerial reconnaissance with three Mozambique officials embarked. Injured personnel are being treated at the first medical camp and a second medical camp is being set up based on a request by the UN to provide medical assistance to around 3,000 personnel.

 

Indian Navy has signified its strong promise by extending a helping hand with the safe evacuation of the affected personnel by IN ships is being coordinated in consultation with local authorities. The Defence Minister of Mozambique visited Indian Navy ships to oversee the relief efforts. The Senior Officer of First Training Squadron, Capt Varun Singh, NM embarked onboard Indian Navy Ship Sujata has indicated to the Mozambique Navy that no effort would be spared by the Indian navy ships in providing HADR and SAR effort.

 

Cyclone 'IDAI' made landfall at Beira, Mozambique on 15 March causing widespread damage and loss of human life in the Central and Northern provinces of the country. The city of Beira faced maximum devastation with large scale damage to infrastructure. There are also reports of about 5000 personnel marooned at Buzi near Port Beira requiring immediate evacuation.
