Getting ready for ‘Desh Ka Maha Tyohar’, Northeast gives green tick to security system for polls

Itanagar, March 28: With the Lok Sabha polls going on floor from April, the security for the states have been lined up accordingly. As far as the Northeast region is concerned, a high-level security review meeting of senior army officials along with the representatives from civil administration and central armed police forces of Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh was convened by the Operations Group at Dinjan in Assam on Thursday.

 

The meeting reviewed the overall security situation in the regions of Upper Assam, South Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland while the house presents also discussed preparations to ensure an incident free conduct of parliamentary elections. During the meeting, officials from all the states analysed the possible security sensitivities and measures to enhance synergy between security forces operating in the region.

Assam will go for Lok Sabha elections in three phases, the polling dates being April 11, 18 and 23, while elections for two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal and one in Nagaland would be held in a single phase on April 11. Thursday’s meeting was attended by Spear Corps Commander, Lt Gen Rajeev Sirohi, ministry of home affairs joint secretary (Northeast) Satyendra Garg, General Officer Commanding, Dao Division Maj Gen Rajendra Sachdev, ADGP (Security), Assam Harmeet Singh and IGP (Law and Order), Arunachal Pradesh Sagar Preet Hooda.

It is pertinent to mention that the proposal to form the Operations Group took shape on November 12 last year during a high-level security review meeting at Dinjan which was chaired by Union ministry of home affairs special secretary (internal affairs) Reena Mitra.

Since then, the Operations Group has held four meetings in Dinjan which has enhanced the cohesion among all stake holders in the three states.
