Amethi, April 1: Cyclones of fears in Congress has started as Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi has decided to fight elections contest from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala along with his Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh. Senior Congress party leader AK Antony on Sunday announced that Gandhi will also contest from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala along with his Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh. Briefing media in New Delhi, Antony said, the decision was taken following requests by many Congress workers and leaders from southern states.

This shows Rahul’s fear to win Amethi seat against Smriti Irani. Tweets can be seen on Twitter that, “We are happy to announce that @smritiirani ji is winning from #Amerhi that is why because of fear Congress leader AK Antony has to announced that Rahul Gandhi will also contest #LokSabhaElections2019 from Wayanad, Kerala.”

Deepak Singh, Congress Member of the Legislative Council from Amethi, said, "Accepting the party workers' demand to contest election from Wayanad is a welcome move by Rahul Gandhi."

But in reality, As Smriti Irani has emerged as a powerful politician in Amethi in the last five years; the popularity of Rahul Gandhi is fading fast in the constituency that has elected members of the Gandhi family since 1980. In a one-day tour to the constituency in January, Smriti Irani had said that Amethi is no more a stronghold of Rahul as he has lost all elections in the last five years in Amethi. The Congress and Gandhi family have come under attack over lack of development in Amethi. Despite being a VIP constituency for decades, Amethi is still awaiting its redemption.

Reacting to Gandhi’s candidature from Wayanad, former CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said that the Congress party’s decision shows that their priority now is to fight the Left in Kerala. He said it goes against Congress’ national commitment to fight BJP, as in Kerala its LDF which is the main force fighting BJP there. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has fielded CPI’s PP Suneer from the seat.
