Another 100 Indian fishermen released; to touch Wagah border today

New Delhi, April 15: Today’s sunrise has brought good news for 100 Indian families as Pakistan has released another 100 Indian fishermen as a goodwill gesture. The fishermen were released on Saturday as part of the second batch of 360 Indian prisoners Pakistan has promised to set free in four phases. The first batch of 100 Indian fishermen was released on the 7th of this month.


 

The fishermen released from Malir Jail in Karachi were taken to Lahore by train. They will be handed over to the Indian authorities at the Wagah border today.

Indian fishermen, mostly from Gujarat had been arrested for allegedly fishing in Pakistani waters in the Arabian Sea. Another 100 fishermen will be freed on 22nd April, while the rest will be released on April 29.

Two weeks back, Pakistan announced that it will release 360 Indian prisoners, mostly fishermen, this month in four phases, as a "goodwill gesture". Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said the process of releasing the Indian fishermen will start on April 8 when 100 prisoners will be released.

Another 100 will be released in the third phase on April 22; the fourth and last phase on April 29 will see the release of the remaining 60 prisoners.
