Dhaka, April 18: As India took strong action against Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed, coming forward and campaigning for Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, this did not go well with Bangladesh as well. Expressing regret and embarassment, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen described the actions of renowned actor Ferdous Ahmed as “regrettable.”

Speaking to the media, “What he has done is regrettable.” Senior officials of the foreign ministry also expressed their annoyance and frustration with Ferdous's actions, terming it “embarrassing” for the country. They said, "People of his stature must be mindful of their activities which may be harmful for the country." Further adding the said, “Ferdous’s action is not only embarrassing, but foolish.”

The officials also pointed out that Ferdous’s visa was cancelled at a time when Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque was visiting India.

The Indian visa of the 45-year-old actor was cancelled for taking part in the election campaign for the Trinamool Congress. As a result, he had to promptly leave India. Ferdous was also blacklisted, which means he might be ineligible for a future Indian visa.

Showing a red eye to Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed for helping in election campaigns for Trinamool Congress, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday issued him a ‘Leave India’ notice. The central government also cancelled the business visa given to him as he was seen campaigning for a candidate of Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. Not only this, Ahmed has also been “blacklisted” by the Union Home Ministry, thus jeopardising the chances of his future travel to India.

It was learnt that Ferdous had taken part in a roadshow along with other Bengali actors at Raiganj, Hemtabad, Karandighi and Islampur. The MHA had sought a detailed report on whether Ahmed had violated visa conditions by allegedly participating in campaigning. The Bangladeshi film star was seen seeking votes for TMC’s Raiganj candidate Kanhaiyalal Agarwal. Ahmed addressed rallies across Hemtabad and Karandighi near the Indo-Bangladesh border. He also took part in a road show along with other Tollywood actors.
