Remarkable Step Forward: DRDO conducts Successful Flight Test of ABHYAS
Odisha, May14: Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Monday conducted successful flight test of ABHYAS – High-speed Extendable Aerial Target (HEAT) from interim Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha, thereby proving India’s fruitful steps towards defense preparedness.
“The flight test was tracked by various RADARS and Electro Optic System and proved its performance in fully autonomous way point navigation mode.’’ The DRDO said in a press release.
ABHYAS is a drone designed for autonomous flight with the help of an autopilot. Its configuration is designed on an in-line small gas turbine engine and uses indigenously developed MEMS based navigation system for its navigation and guidance. ABHYAS is GPS-enabled, has an on-board flight controlling computer and a miss-distance indicator.
The first experimental launch (Without Engine) was conducted in June 2012. The concept of ABHYAS was proved and pre-project details were completed in January 2013.
