Jammu and Kashmir: Security Forces successfully eliminate two terrorists; search operations still on

Srinagar, May 18: Security Forces were successful to gun down two terrorists in Awantipora area of Pulwama district early this morning. The gunfight broke out after security forces launched cordon and search operation in Panzgam village and the terrorists hiding there opened fire on the forces.


 

Officials said that identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists is being ascertained. One more terrorist could be hiding in the area and search operations are on.

The troops of the Central Reserve Police Force, Rashtriya Rifles and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group are involved in the encounter

One of the slain militants has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar, a resident of Panzgam village. He belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit.

 

The hiding militants were challenged after which they opened fire at the security forces, triggering an encounter.

“Two militants have been killed and their bodies have been recovered. Although firing exchanges have now stopped, the operation is still on,” a police officer said.

However, there was no immediate official confirmation of the identity of the slain.
