No voters left behind, world's highest polling booth Tashingang registers impressive voter’s turnout

Shimla, May 20: Like we all believe, the end of a story has to be worth it, likewise the last phase of the biggest Lok Sabha election also made a remarkable ending. The Tashingang village of Himachal Pradesh, world’s highest polling station at 15,256 feet, recorded an unbelievable voter turnout. The last phase of the Lok Sabha election on Sunday ended on an impressive note.

 

With merely 49 registered voters figuring in the village electoral roll, a total of 65 voters had cast their votes till 3 pm at the Tashigang polling booth. The Election Commission made sure that no voter is left behind and with this, the people of Tashingang village also made sure that their vote is counted.

 

Beginning the polling at 7 am, voters came to the polling station in their traditional attire to beat the freezing temperature. It recorded voter turnout of 53% till 9 am. As per the reports, Hikkim polling station used to be the world's highest polling booth earlier but it was replaced by Tashigang during the 2017 Assembly election due to some technical reasons.

The Assistant Chief Election Officer said that the Ka polling station with the lowest number of voters in the state is situated in another tribal district of Kinnaur. The booth has been set up for just 16 voters. Both Tashigang and Ka polling stations fall under the Mandi parliamentary seat where the highest number of 17 candidates are in the fray. 

As the motto of the Election Commission cites, 'No voters to be left behind', the voters came out to cast their votes. The Election Commission officers made sure that the voters at the highest polling station are not left behind and therefore, this truly turns out to be the biggest festival of democracy.

With a state minister and MLAs, the candidates in the states are trying to make it to the Parliament. There are 53,30,154 registered voters for the four constituencies Shimla (SC), Mandi, Hamirpur and Kangra in the state.
