Islamabad, May 23: With mounting tensions and rising conflicts between the two countries, India and Pakistan have always shared sour relations. Trying to pacify the situation by initiating peace talks, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his victory in general elections. Congratulating PM Modi, Pak PM Imran Khan expressed desire to work with him for peace, progress and prosperity in the region.

Overshadowing the challenges, Modi led BJP government strikes a resounding victory for a second term in office. The Pakistan PM Imran Khan tweeted, "I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on the electoral victory of BJP and allies. Look forward to working with him for peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia."

India’s General Elections was a significant aspect for Pakistan as the new government would have decided the fate of relations between the two countries. In April, Khan said he believed there may be a better chance of peace talks with India and settle the Kashmir issue if Modi's party BJP wins the general elections.

After the Pulwama Attack in February, relations between India and Pakistan triggered more as the terrorist attack killed 44 CRPF jawans. Retaliating to the same, India took off the ‘Most Favoured Nations’ tag from Pakistan.
