Congress keeps hold on Punjab Lok Sabha seats, leading in 8 seats, SAD & BJP 2 each

Amritsar, May 23: As per initial trends the Congress is leading in eight out of 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. While, Shiromani Akali Dal, SAD and BJP are leading in two seats. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri trailing in Amritsar by more than 70,000 votes.

 

Congress is leading in Amritsar, Faridkot, Anandpur Sahib, Jalandhar, Khadoor Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala seats while Akali Dal is leading in Bhatinda and Firozpur seats.

 BJP’s Kirron Kher is leading in the Chandigarh constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by over 6000 votes against Congress’ Pawan Kumar Bansal as of 2.37 pm on Thursday, in the Lok Sabha election results.  AAP’s Harmohan Dhawan is far behind with just over 5,000 votes.

Bollywood actor and BJP candidate Sunny Deol has taken the lead by more than 21,000 votes in Punjab's Gurdaspur from where he is contesting, showed early leads at around 10 am.

Deol is contesting against senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar. Mr Deol, 62, is BJP's choice to wrestle the Gurdaspur seat back from Congress.

Another big contender for the seat is the Aam Aadmi Party's, Peter Masih. In the 2014 general election, the AAP won four seats from Punjab, out of 13.

The Gurdaspur seat has been a BJP stronghold, represented by actor-turned-politician Vinod Khanna in 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014. After his death, there was speculation that his wife Kavita Khanna would be nominated from the seat.
