New Delhi, May 24: With 303 Member of Parliaments, the Bhartiya Janata Party has retained its position as the majority party in the Lok Sabha after the 2019 elections. 397 MPs were elected from national parties. Of these 303 MPs were from BJP, 52 from Congress. Among the state parties, DMK (23) and YSRCP (22), 22 from TMC won the most seats. Newly elected youngsters will hold hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They will lead towards the dream of New India. Ideas of new generation and roadmap of NDA government will bring multipronged development.

 

The 17th Lok Sabha has 12% of MPs below the age of 40 years. This is more than that of the 16th Lok Sabha which had 8% of MPs below the age of 40 years. On average, women MPs are 6 years younger compared to male MPs in the Lok Sabha.

The final results for 542 constituencies have just been declared. Elections to one constituency – Vellore in Tamil Nadu, were postponed. There was an air of doubt over the winning prospects of most first timers who entered the fray replacing the old guards in the 17th Lok Sabha.


Eight women, more than half of them from the BJP, have made it to the Lok Sabha from Maharashtra, which sends 48 MPs to the Lower House of Parliament, the second highest after Uttar Pradesh.


 

As many as 20 of the 48 MPs from Maharashtra are making their debut in this Lok Sabha. Eleven of them are from the BJP, four from the Shiv Sena, two from the NCP, one is an independent backed by the NCP, and one each is from the Congress and AIMIM.

In the festival of democracy, the candidates and their professions show as 39% of MPs have listed their occupation as political and social work. 38% are engaged in agricultural activities. 23% of MPs are businessmen. Only 4% of MPs are lawyers.

As per election commission of India report shows a maximum number of women voters have turned out in this Lok Sabha Election process. Among elected members are 78 women MPs in the 17th Lok Sabha. In 2014, 62 women MPs were elected.

The representation of women MPs in Lok Sabha is slowly improving from 5% in the 1st Lok Sabha to 14 % in the 17th Lok Sabha.

300 MPs will be in Lok Sabha for their first –term. From the outgoing Lok Sabha, 197 MPs were re-elected. Further, 45 have been members of earlier Lok Sabhas.


The BJP which retained all five seats in Uttarakhand besides capturing the highest ever vote share of over 60 per cent by any party in the state also saw Lok Sabha poll debutants such as Tirath Singh Rawat and Ajay Bhatt win with the biggest margins.
