Tick marking manifesto promises, MHA bans terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh

New Delhi, May 25: A man of his words, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he will act robustly to weed out terrorism, he did. Acting on tick marking the promises made in the manifesto, Narendra Modi led government banned terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and its all affiliates. The government notified that the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen India or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Hindustan and all its manifestations as banned organisation under section 35 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

 

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh have committed acts of terrorism, promoted acts of terrorism. The groups have engaged in radicalisation and recruitment of young people for terrorist activities in India. The ministry also said that the organisation is involved in multiple terror incidents.

The ministry in a gazette notification further said, "Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-section (1) of section 35 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Central Government hereby makes the following further amendments in the First Schedule to the said Act, namely:- In the First Schedule to the said Act, after serial number 41 and the entries relating thereto, the following serial number and entries shall be inserted, namely:- “42. Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen India or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Hindustan and all its manifestations.”

The MHA had notified that during the investigations, it revealed JMB’s plan of making permanent bases within ten kilometres along the Indo-Bangladesh border. This is in particular to the districts of States of West Bengal, Assam and Tripura and plans of spreading its network in South India with an overarching motive to establish Caliphate in the Indian subcontinent.
