New Delhi, May 25: Amid the loud applause and desk-thumping, Narendra Modi has been elected as leader of National Democratic Alliance today. Electing Modi as the undisputed leader of the NDA was carried out at a meeting in the Central Hall of parliament.


 

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal proposed PM Modi's name as the leader of NDA and JDU leader Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray and Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan and AIADMK leader E K Palaniswami endorsed the proposal.

Other leaders who supported the proposal are Nationalist Democratic Progressive Parties Neiphiu Rio and other alliance partners.

Earlier, Modi was unanimously elected as the leader of BJP parliamentary party. BJP President Amit Shah proposed his name and Rajnath Singh seconded it.

While addressing the meeting, Modi said, “I convey my heartfelt gratitude to you all. The BJP chose me unanimously as the leader of the parliamentary party and all the NDA parties supported it and I am thankful for it.”

Narendra Modi further added, “Today, all the senior colleagues of the NDA have blessed me. You have all chosen me as the leader. I consider this to be a part of the system. I am also one of you. I am equal to you. We have to walk shoulder by side.”

 

“All of the changes that have been made by the politics of the country have led to it. You are thankful to all the felicitation. But the members who have come by choosing for the first time are thankful to the special felicitation,” Modi continued.

 

Narendra Modi will stake claim to form an NDA government this evening. He will call on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Prior to this, NDA leaders are also likely to call on the President.
