Recalling his contribution to nation building, PM Modi bows on Nehru's 55th death anniversary

Paying him due respects and tributes on his 55th death anniversary, central leaders today, right from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former president Pranab Mukherjee, former vice-president Hamid Ansari to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia, moved up recalling his great deeds.
 
"Tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji on his death anniversary. We remember his contributions to our nation," soon to be sworn in as a novel Prime Minister, Narendra Modi said. Further recalling Nehru’s contribution in nation building, Vice President M venkhaiah Naidu tweeted saying, “Tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji on his death anniversary today. He will always be remembered for his contributions to building a modern India”.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, who recently lost the Amethi seat against BJP’s Smriti Irani, tweeted tributes to his great grandfather saying, “Several democracies as young as India, soon degenerated into dictatorships, but Nehru was one of those leaders who helped democracy survive in India for over 70 years”.
Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister in the outgoing cabinet Rajnath Singh also paid homage to Nehru. "Remembering India's first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's contribution to our society and the nation on his punyatithi. I offer my tributes to him," he tweeted.
Born to Motilal Nehru and Swaroop Rani on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, Nehru and the Congress dominated Indian politics during the 1930s as the country moved towards independence.
 
His idea of a secular nation-state was seemingly validated when the Congress swept the 1937 provincial elections and formed the government in several provinces. He remained in office until his death on May 27, 1964 leading India to a new height of modernism and evolution.
