Rescue operations in full swing to support the #CycloneFani hit areas

Visakhapatnam, May 4: Cyclone Fani made heavy destruction in Puri and Chilka districts of Odisha state on Friday. In the wake of heavy rains in the eastern coastal area of the country due to the cyclone, the Indian Navy has intensified rescue operations in the state. Eastern Naval Command intensified Rescue Operations in the worst affected areas of Chilka and Puri. Additional relief material and medical teams have been augmented to Odisha from Visakhapatnam.


 

INS Ranvijay and Airavat with integral helicopters have also sailed from Visakhapatnam with relief material including medical stores and medical teams and are proceeding to Odisha to conjoin the rescue operation with Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri, Ranvir and Kadmatt. An Indian Navy spokesperson said Dornier Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft was pressed into service to undertake an aerial survey to assess the impact of the cyclone and the extent of the devastation.

On Friday, Indian Navy’s Dornier aircraft undertook an aerial survey to assess the impact & extent of devastation caused in the aftermath of the storm. The Navy has also kept six aircraft and seven helicopters for rescue and relief operations.

Also, Indian Railways has permitted free transportation of aid and relief materials to Cyclone - Fani affected states of West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

 

In a letter to General Managers of Railways, Railway Board has issued guidelines in this regard. All government organizations across the country can book relief materials free of cost to affected states.

Divisional Railway Managers have been empowered to take decisions including attaching additional bogies or vans to the various train bound to these states. The permission will remain effective till 2nd of next month.
