Ready to tackle as always… #CycloneFani hit the land but not the Josh of Indian Navy, Air Force for relief operations

Vishakhapatnam, May 6: One of the worsts natural situations ‘Cyclone Fani’ which made a heavy hit in Odisha, West Bengal and also caused destruction didn’t affect the Josh of our Navy and Air Force who are behind the rescue operation on an intense level. In the following videos we can see food packets being airdropped in and around Puri Odisha by Indian Navy helicopters; and loading of packets on board shop borne helicopters.


 

Also, Indian Navy continued relief operation with three IN ships using their integral helicopters. The helicopters are being utilised for airdropping food packets in areas which are inundated and inaccessible by road.

In addition, a relief camp and community kitchen at Pentakota village in Puri is catering for over 1,000 personnel. 5,000 litres of potable water was supplied to Chattragad village using a water bowser from INS Chilka. Supply of another 5,000 litres bottled water is being augmented from Visakhapatnam by road which is expected to reach the relief campsite by midnight on Sunday.

In order to render medical assistance, naval medical teams have set up medical camps at four locations at Chattraged and Jankia villages in Odisha. About 150 personnel have been provided medical assistance and medicines were distributed to those in need. The medical team also sensitised the villagers on preventive measures to avoid water-borne diseases and discussed other health-related issues.

 

Indian Air Force using its specialized aerial platforms enhanced the reach of critical aid. In support of the ongoing rehabilitation efforts in Cyclone Fani affected areas, IAF C-17 aircraft carried over 40 tonnes of relief material, including critical medicines to Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

 

Based on a request from the Administration, a naval diving team from INS Chilka undertook diving operations to clear off sand, plastic and other organic matter accumulated alongside the Kalijai floating Jetty and carried out an underwater assessment of the Jetty for safe operations on Sunday. The teams also assisted in the distribution of food to stranded villagers affected by the cyclone.
