New Delhi, May 7: Congress leader P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram is a free bird for this month as the Supreme Court today allowed him to travel to the US, Germany and Spain this month. He is facing criminal cases which are being probed by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said the permission to Karti Chidambaram to travel abroad is subject to compliance of conditions imposed earlier.

The apex court had in January granted him permission to travel abroad after depositing 10 crore rupees with the Secretary-General of the Supreme Court. The top court had also asked him to file an undertaking that he would return and cooperate with the investigation.

One of the cases that Karti faces relates to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media for receiving foreign funds of 305 crore rupees when his father was the Finance Minister.

Last month, Supreme Court had refused to stay Madras High Court order quashing criminal prosecution against Karti Chidambaram and Nalini Chidambaram, son and wife of Congress leader P Chidambaram.

A bench headed by the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi also sought responses from Nalini and Karti on an appeal of the Income Tax department against the Madras High Court order quashing criminal prosecution against them in an alleged black money case.
