Gurdaspur, May 8: In a significant decision, the government of India and Pakistan approved the building and development of the Kartarpur corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district to the international border. In order to facilitate pilgrims from India to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur on the banks of the Ravi river, in Pakistan. To facilitate this construction of Kartarpur corridor, the dismantling of Darshan Sthal has been started on Tuesday. Pakistan government plans to set up an immigration centre on its side of the corridor.

The high platform was constructed 11 years ago and fitted with the pair of binoculars for an easy darshan of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan at the distance of 4.5km. The private construction company carrying out construction said that this demolition of work is necessary for the construction of a bridge.

“Since all the devotees aspire to pay obeisance at gurudwara in Pakistan but don’t have a passport, they would still want to have a darshan and if a suitable arrangement if not made there will be displeasure of these people.” Said, Sanghat Langha Kartarpur president B S Goraya. He also stressed on remote Darshan of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib even after the demolition of the Darshan Sthal.

Goraya suggested that the government open an alternate route up to the international border, make the Darshan Sthal and arrange binocular for an easy glimpse of Gurudwara. Darshan Sthal was inaugurated on May 8, 2008, and after 11 years on May 6, 2019, it was closed for devotees and dismantled on May 7.
