Mumbai, June 10: One of the signs of greatness of a person is that he ceases to his work when he is at peak! When a person retires at such a point of time when all others want him to continue, he creates a permanent place in the hearts of people. This is exactly what Yuvraj Singh has done today by announcing the retirement at the age of 37. Although this is a very touching moment for Indians, it’s a moment of pride too!

The most India will lose by his retirement is his spectacular match-winning games. Yuvraj has yielded India so many victories from worst of the worst situations. He played for the ‘team’, but not for ‘individual records’. Yuvraj played total 304 ODI matches in which he scored just 14 Centuries and 52 Fiftys. But his match-winning games are unforgettable. Yuvraj played 40 test matches, but in fact, such a slow game was not the business of the full-blooded players like Yuvraj. His real hidden spirit was exposed in T-20 matches when he showed unbelievable performance in the first T-20 World Cup. How one can forget his horrible 6 sixes in one Over against Stuart Broad? How one can forget his extraordinary performance in 2011 World Cup with 362 runs and 15 wickets? How one can forget his showering tears when India lost against West-Indies by just one run after an impressive fight in 2007 World-Cup?

“After 25 years in and around the 22 yards and almost 17 years of international cricket on and off, I have decided to move on. This game taught me how to fight, how to fall, to dust off, to get up again and move forward. I was extremely lucky to play 400 games for India. I could have never imagined when I first started playing cricket. It was a love-hate relationship with this game. I made some great friends and some not so great friends in cricket over the years. I have never stopped believing in myself." – Yuvraj Singh

He was not only a destructive batsman but a useful left-arm spinner who picked up 111 ODI wickets at an average of 36.55. the attacking left-hander listed the 2011 World Cup Triumph, being ‘Man of the Tournament’ in the showpiece. However, destiny put a biggest challenged before him immediately after the 2011 victory as he was diagnosed with cancer. However, cancer was nothing for this robust fellow and he proved it!
“It was like touching the sky and then falling down at light speed and hitting the ground hard. All this happened so quickly. I can’t possibly explain the support of my family and friends who stood by me, like my pillars of strength and courage” said Yuvraj recollecting his cancer memories.
