New Delhi, June 14: “Centre believes that growth and environment protection can go together and that it will not compromise with environmental protection”, said environment minister Prakash Javdekar while addressing the CII National Council meeting in the national capital today.
He further ensured that the Centre has expedited the environment clearance for industries and it will no more be a road blocker in the development. “Earlier the ministry used to take 640 days for environmental and forest clearances, which has now come down to 108 days”, he said adding that the government would reduce this time to two months.
He also stressed the need for research and innovation saying the country’s industry will not grow and the export will not rise without them. “The most important challenge currently is how to push the country's exports and the industry should focus in this direction”, he diligently said.
“India’s environmental head has eased many environmental regulations and took global position on sustainability. Policy predictability can compensate for environmental predictability”, said Vikram Kirloskar who was also present at the occasion.
Meanwhile he also informed that the Confederation of Indian Industry is set to take part in UN conference on environment which is scheduled in the month of September to showcase industry efforts in sustainability. “CII will support Centre on COP in Chile. We want to scale up Air Pollution efforts in North India to 100 villages”, he added.
