Scripting history, Indian Embassy gives a replica by performing yoga in the backdrop of mighty Mt Everest

Kathmandu, June 17: Engaging with a vow to lead a comfortable and healthy life, yoga has influenced many with its enriched skills. As India gears up to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21, the entire world extends its support with contributing their bit. In a first, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu organised a yoga event at the base camp of Mount Everest to celebrate the fifth International Day of Yoga.

 

With Indian mountaineer Bharat Sharma and other mountaineers from various countries coming together, created history by performing Yoga at 17,600 feet altitude in the backdrop of mighty Nepal's Thyangboche which is the gateway to Mount Everest. The main aim of the programme was to highlight the importance of yoga in daily life and to bring peace and harmony across the nations and among people.

Apart from the mountaineers, a large number of people, including Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri, locals, members of various women and youth organisations, officers of the Sagarmatha National Park and foreign tourists, participated in the event.

International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015. The concept of the Yoga Day was proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) September 27, 2014.
