Social Justice Ministry Holds '17th Run Against Drug Abuse' in New Delhi

New Delhi, June 26: Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot today flagged off “17th Run Against Drug Abuse” on the occasion of ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. 
The dignitaries present for the event led the Symbolic Walk with Band display. A demo cultural show was organized and certificate prizes and awards of appreciation were distributed to the participants on the occasion.

 
This annual event is being held successfully for the past 16 years. The event proved to be of great value for awareness on drug abuse. Making the World Drug Day on 26th June to raise awareness about drugs, ‘Listen First’ is chosen an initiative theme now to increase support for prevention of drug use that is based on science and is thus an effective investment in the well-being of children and youth, their families and communities. 
Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them to grow healthy and safe. The event has great support from all Para Military Forces, Police, Running Clubs, Team Leaders, Schools, Colleges and NGOs with the maximum No. of participation.
 
The United Nations General Assembly by a resolution on December 7, 1987 decided to observe June 26 as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and co-operation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. The theme for this year is ‘Heath for Justice, Justice for Health’. The theme highlights that justice and health are the two sides of the same coin.
