Ship Ministry and IIT Kharagpur team up for ship design and testing!

New Delhi, Jun 27: Making India more advanced in shipbuilding, IIT Kharagpur soon will be equipped with hip design and testing facility, enabling India to test vessels within the country rather than sending ships to Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and Belgium for testing.
 
 
As per the statement of IIT-Kharagpur Director Partha Chakrabarti, The facility will be operational in three years, and the investment would be recovered in two years of operations.
 
 
with an investment of Rs 70 crores, The facility will be set up in collaboration with the Ministry of Shipping. Ships for shallow water that can run on LNG and electricity will be designed in the facility.
 
 
In this project, IIT-Kharagpur will act as resource-provider. It will provide land. As per the official statement of IIT-Kharagpur Director, the project would become self-sustaining within five years.
 
 
Further, Partha Chakrabarti also added, The facility will also be a source of revenue, and develop an ecosystem for aspiring entrepreneurs.
 
 
About this project, Union Minister Mansukhlal Mandaviya said, “The facility can be used not just by Indian shipyards, but also by shipyards outside India as well”.
