London, June 3: In the ICC World Cup Cricket, Bangladesh beat South Africa by 21 runs at the Oval in London last night. Chasing the victory target of 331 runs, South Africa could score only 309 for 8 in the stipulated 50 overs. Earlier, South Africa won the toss and chose to field.


 

Put into bat, Bangladesh scored 330 for 6 with the help of blistering half-centuries by Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. Shakib Al Hasan who made 75 runs in 84 balls and took 1 wicket was declared player of the match.

South Africa's Imran Tahir achieved a landmark as the leg spinner made his 100th One-Day international appearance in the World Cup Clash against Bangladesh.

Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan had lost their opening matches to West Indies, New Zealand and Australia respectively. But Bangladesh was determined to showcase much better cricket and piled up 330 for 6 off their 50 overs.

 

Today, England will take on Pakistan at Nottingham. The match will start at 3 PM.

India will begin their campaign on Wednesday against South Africa while Bangladesh will now compete with New Zealand on the same day.
