ITBP officer Aparna Kumar conquers highest peak in North America; becomes first civil servant for this achievement

Washington, July 1: Creating a new record, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Aparna Kumar has become the first civil servant to scale Mount Denali, the highest peak in North America. She got her success in her third attempt, the ITBP officials said.

 

Kumar, a 2002 batch IPS officer from UP cadre is currently posted as DIG, ITBP Northern Frontier at Dehradun. This was her 7th summit in her '7 Summits' challenge. She also became the first woman IPS DIG and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officer to successfully complete the South Pole expedition.

"We congratulate Aparna Kumar, DIG Northern Frontier ITBP on summitting Mount Denali, the highest peak of North America (20,310 feet) and completing her seventh Summit in her mission 'Seven Summits' Challenge. She is the first civil servant and IPS officer to achieve this rare feat," ITBP tweeted from their official account.

Aparna Kumar had reached the North Pole on January 13. In January, Aparna successfully reached the South Pole after covering 111 kilometers of walking on the snow. She also carried equipment weighing 35 Kilograms along with her. She has already scaled the top six mountain peaks of the six continents of the globe.
