Mumbai, July 1: The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and the second best time is now! If we fail to plant now, there would be no rain, no forest and ultimately no life! Aiming to create an extended green cover in the Maharashtrian belt, CM Devendra Fadnavis on Monday inaugurated a 33-Crore Plantation Drive.

“I and FM Sudhir Manguntiwar thought Anandwan to be the best place to start with the campaign. During the first year, we planted crores, the next year we unitedly planted 15 crores and this year we will plant 35 crores in a month making a world record”, said CM Devendra Fadnavis while inaugurating the event.
“We all know importance of the trees. With this initiative we all will no longer have to wait for rainfall and the drought prone areas will no more suffer. This also will ultimately benefit the coming generations. We have taken a lot and continue to take a lot from the nature. Now it’s time to repay”, he added.

Maharashtra Forest Department meanwhile also unveiled a postal envelope to ensure increased public participation in the drive and to raise awareness on importance of plantation.

Globally as well as nationally, forest conservation is increasingly being viewed as a powerful instrument in sequestering carbon and thereby offset adverse climate change. Maharashtra Forest Department, being custodian of the State’s rich and diverse bio-diversity, seems committed to a conservation-centric management and protection strategy.
