Hyderabad, July 1: Forest Department today conducted a big and successful plantation drive on the place where a lady forest range officer was brutally attacked by TRS mob in Kaghaznagar, Telangana yesterday. Plantation was done by the Forest Department, Police and other personals on the 20-hectare area thereby giving a befitting reply to the attackers.

Yesterday’s incident was an ugly manifestation of cruelty. While the Forest Department was embarking on an afforestation drive as a part of the Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project in Kagaznagar area of Asifabad district of Telangana yesterday, a mob of 30-40 goons armed with sticks ruthlessly attacked a lady forest range officer. The mob was led by Koneru Krishna, a Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) party leader who is also the brother of Koneru Konappa, an incumbent MLA.

Around 20 hectares of degraded forest land had been selected by the Forest Department of Telangana for compensatory afforestation in the Reserve Forest Blocks of Kadamba under Kaghaznagar range. Execution of the plan didn’t happen yesterday due to the attacks. However, the Forest Department sought the permission of the Collector and Superintendent of Police of Asifabad district to tighten the security measures to continue with the plantation work. Right on the next day of the incident today, the FD officials executed the afforestation project under sufficient security.
