New Delhi, Jul 15: Advice for complex legal issues is frequently occurring activity in public administration. But unfortunately, for last more than 6 months, Law Commission is not working, because the 21st Law Commission dissolved in August.

To channelized Law Commission again, the Union law ministry has initiated the process of setting up a law commission body that gives advice to the government on complex legal issues.

As per the report, The law ministry had moved the proposal to reconstitute the panel but the proposal could not move further as the government had entered the election mode.

The proposal will be tabled before the Union Cabinet in the next few days said the sources.

The 21st Law commission under Justice B S Chauhan (retd), had submitted reports and working papers on key issues such as simultaneous polls to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies and uniform civil code.

The proposal was supported by the Law Commission, but it had then said the common code would take time to be implemented. Previously in the year 2015, a proposal urging to make the law panel into a permanent body either through an Act of Parliament or an executive order (resolution of the Union Cabinet) was moved.

In 2010 also, the then UPA government had prepared a draft cabinet note to give statutory status to the Law Commission and the Law Ministry had mooted to bring the Law Commission of India Bill, 2010. But the idea was shelved even then.
