Panaji, July 15: Violating the sanctity of the whereabout and gradually showing incivility towards the former Goa CM Manohar Parrikar, the Goa Forward Party on Sunday held a meeting at the place where Parrikar was cremated, further withdrawing the support from the BJP state government by sending a communication to Governor Mridula Sinha.

This is after CM Pramod Sawant reshuffled the cabinet on Saturday replacing 3 GFP members with those from amongst the 10 Congress MLAs, who recently joined BJP, affecting the one third merger.

"The political affairs committee and the legislature party wing of Goa Forward Party met today and decided unanimously to withdraw support to the Bharatiya Janata Party government led by Dr Pramod Sawant," the party's letter to the governor read.
Condemning the act, Goa BJP spokesperson Damodar Naik, without naming the GFP, said that the alliance partners were wrongly swearing by Parrikar with claims that they were in coalition to keep the word given to the former chief minister. "We condemn yesterday's incident. Some people were misusing the place where one of our tallest leaders, Manohar Parrikar, was cremated. They have violated its sanctity," he said.

He further questioned why some alliance partners were haggling for better posts after Parrikar's death. Further responding to a question on whether having a coalition with GFP was a wrong decision, Naik said, "Parrikar took the right decision at the right time to help the party.

The cabinet reshuffle in Goa comes as the Congress-JDS coalition in Karnataka struggles to survive after the resignation of 18 lawmakers. The BJP currently has 27 MLAs in the 40-member Goa Assembly.
