Gold After Gold! Vinesh Phogat Brings Third Gold to India at Yasar Dogu International Wrestling Meet

Istanbul, July 15: India’s wrestling queen Vinesh Phogat has won the second consecutive gold of her career, thereby clinching third gold medal for India at Yasar Dogu Wrestling International being held in Istanbul. She won gold in the 53kg category after Seema (50kg) and Manju (59kg) triumphed in their respective categories.

 
Vinesh, the 24-year old ace wrestler put up an outstanding performance with a score of 11-1, 7-0, 14-4, 9-5 to win over Russia’s Ekaterina Poleschuk. This was her second consecutive gold in the 53kg category after she won at the Spanish Grand Prix last week. Vinesh is the first Indian woman wrestler to bag gold medals in the Commonwealth and Asian games. She is the receiver of the prestigious Arjuna award and has already secured her birth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
 
Vinesh comes from a successful family of wrestlers as her two cousins Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari are international wrestlers and commonwealth Games medalists. She is the first Indian Athlete to be nominated for Laureas World Sports Award. She was also nominated for the prestigious Padmashri Award by the Sports Authority of India in 2018.
