#Karnataka: Constitution Wins! BJP Welcomes SCs Verdict on 15 Rebel MLAs Resignation

Bangalore, July 17: In a much awaited verdict, The Supreme Court today directed that the 15 rebel MLAs of the Congress-JD(S) coalition in Karnataka should not be compelled to take part in the proceedings of the State Assembly and the Speaker is free to take the decision.  A bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi cleared that Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar is free to decide on the resignations of the rebel legislators within the time-frame decided by him.

 
Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar while reacting to the judgment said that he would take a decision that in no way will go contrary to the Constitution, the court and the Lokpal.
Welcoming the verdict, the BJP Party General Secretary Murlidhar Rao said that the apex court while accepting Assembly Speaker as the authority to decide resignation issue, has clearly directed him to do it fast without delay and there is no question of disqualification now.
BJP's State President BS Yeddyurappa said, "it is a victory of constitution and democracy and a moral victory for the rebel MLAs". 
 
The Assembly is slated to decide on the confidence motion moved by the HD Kumaraswamy-led government in the state tomorrow. "When the trust vote takes place in Karnataka tomorrow, I am sure that the BJP will win." Said Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of India and BJP leader Prahlad Joshi. 
Meanwhile, 12 rebel Congress-JD(S) MLAs have come out together in a show of solidarity in Mumbai today saying that no question of them attending the Assembly tomorrow.
