New Delhi, July 17: "India and China are respecting bilateral pacts to ensure peace and tranquillity along border”, said Rajnath Singh while addressing the lower house of parliament on Wednesday, further adding that both India and China were exercising restraint in Doklam.

Giving a statement on current situation on the Indian border, he said that there was complete restraint by the Armed Forces of India and China in Dokalam and that there was a month-long stalemate between the armed forces of the two countries in Dokalam in 2017.

The Defence Minister further said that PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping had held a summit in Wuhan where it was decided that peace and stability will be maintained on the border. “Special forces have been given specific instructions to maintain peace and manage the border properly”, he added.
Referring to the steps being taken by the government to enhance security along border with China, Singh said, “Infrastructure like roads, tunnels, railway lines and airfields are being developed on the border of India and China to ensure the sovereignty and security of the nation.”

Troops of India and China were locked in a 73-day standoff in Doklam in the Sikkim sector starting June 16, 2018 after the Indian side stopped construction of a road in the disputed tri-junction by the Chinese army. Bhutan and China have a dispute over Doklam and both the countries have been holding talks to resolve the issue.
