Mumbai's devastating monsoon shuts the city; 18 breath last in Malad wall collapse incident

Mumbai, July 2: Ruining the normal lifestyle of residents, the monsoon in Mumbai has again proved itself to be devastating. Raising the water levels to waist, people seem to struggle save their lives amid a wall collapsed on hutments in Pimpripada area of Malad East due to heavy rainfall today; forcing 18 to breath last further.
 
The NDRF Inspector Rajendra Patil has however confirmed that the team while in search by advance equipment found no more bodies and that the search operations were now being closed.
 
 
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis meanwhile visited Shatabdi Hospital to meet the people injured in Malad wall collapse incident in presence of Minister Yogesh Sagar. He conversed to the 13 injured and ensured all the safety measures be implemented in the mass protection.
 
KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director GoM, IMD Mumbai said that the clouds were observed over north Maharashtra coast including Mumbai. “More impact is likely to be over south Gujarat and adjoining areas. Intermittent heavy showers expected are to continue in Mumbai today. Extremely heavy rainfall, more than 200 mm is however recorded at many places in city; more towards suburbs in last 24 hours”.
With this the State has moved up taking precautionary measures, declaring a public holiday in all the schools and colleges around. The operations at the Mumbai Airport have also been shut as intense rain is expected to continue throughout the day.
 
Meanwhile in Maharashtra’s Pune city, after the wall collapse incident in Kondhwa area, today 6 people have died after a wall of Sinhgad College, Ambegaon collapsed."Will take immediate action against builder and the one who owns the retaining walls. A risk assessment of 287 sites had been done, this site couldn't be assessed as there was no permission", the DM said.
