Owing respect to their valour and heroism, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh pays tribute at Kargil War Memorial

Drass, July 20: Evoking the golden chapter in the great history of victory, the Kargil War truly reshaped Indian military’s outlook. Marking 20 years to this historic war, India pridely celebrates its victory of courage, valour and heroism. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday visited Dras Sector in Jammu and Kashmir and paid tributes to soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil war.

 

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh also laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras to commemorate 20 years of the Indian Army's Operation Vijay. Owing respect to the fallen heroes, Raksha Mantri tweeted a poem highlighting the great sacrifices of the soldiers during the war. He tweeted, “शहीदों की चिताओं पर लगेंगे हर बरस मेले, वतन पर मिटने वालों का यही बाक़ी निशाँ होगा

The war between India and Pakistan was fought at the icy heights in the area, including super-high altitude locations such as Tololing and Tiger Hill. Rajnath Singh also dedicated the nation ‘Memory Lane’ at Kargil War Memorial in Drass. A journey of the great victory of India over Pakistan.

A number of events have been planned to mark 20 years of the conflict with the major one being a relay of a Victory Flame from the National War Memorial (NWM) to Kargil War Memorial in Drass. The Fame of Victory was lit by the Defence Minister at NWM on July 14 and was handed over to ace shooter Subedar Jitu Rai. The flame is being carried by sportsman and war heroes, passing through nine major cities and set to culminate on July 26 at Drass memorial where it will be received by Army chief Bipin Rawat.
