New Delhi, July 24: Arrested on account of terror funding charges, the Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed was sent to judicial remand for another 14 days. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab Province arrested Hafiz Saeed while he was enroute to Gujranwala from Lahore to get pre-arrest bail in terror financing cases.

The UN-designated terrorist whom the US has placed a USD 10 million bounty on, Saeed was arrested by the CTD just days before Imran Khan’s visit to the United States. Hafiz Saeed’s judicial remand has been extended by Anti Terror Court by 14 days. The Chalaan submitted by CTD in the case has been accepted and CTD has been instructed by ATC to complete Charge sheet against Saeed and file it by 7th of August.

Saeed was sent to Lahore's high-security Kot Lakhpat jail where former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is serving seven years imprisonment in a corruption case. Saeed-led JuD is believed to be the front organisation for the LeT which is responsible for carrying out the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people. He was listed under UN Security Council Resolution 1267 in December 2008.

Under pressure from the international community, Pakistani authorities have launched investigations into matters of the LeT, the JuD and its charity wing the Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF) regarding their holding and use of trusts to raise funds for terrorism financing.

While addressing a session in the United States Institute, Imran Khan made a startling revelation by admitting that there are around 30,000 to 40,000 militant groups active in Pakistan.
