Smashing fake educational network, UGC tags 23 universities ‘Self-styled, Unrecognized’!

New Delhi, Jul. 24: Higher education in India is one of the most important sections which is the foundation of ‘New India’. Making this section more empowered, University Grants Commission (UGC), India’s higher education regulator declared the list of 23 ‘self-styled, unrecognized" universities.
On this declaration, GC Secretary Rajnish Jain said, “Students and the public at large are hereby informed that at present 23 self-styled, unrecognized institutions are functioning in various parts of the country in contravention of the UGC Act”.
The UGC alerted students against taking admission in these fake universities, in which 8 are in Uttar Pradesh, which is the highest in the country. India’s Capital, Delhi also has 7 counterfeited universities.
Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Puducherry have one fake university each.
As per Section 23 of the UGC Act, these unrecognized institutions cant named as ‘University’.
In 2017, a letter dated November 10 by UGC had asked 123 Deemed-to-be-Universities to drop the word 'University' from their names. The letter cited a Supreme Court order dated November 3, 2017, and said that the use of the word 'University' by Deemed-to-be universities is in violation of Section 23 of the UGC Act.
