New Delhi, July 29: Caught in the cobweb of lies, misleading facts and fake narratives, India as a secular country is losing secularism. The reason being the people spreading false narratives which is half unsaid and also because they are made to do so.

Media being fourth pillar and a watchdog of society, it is very appalling to know that media houses are paid to spread such misleading news creating animosity among the masses. The Chandauli case where the reports suggested that the family of the 17-year-old Muslim boy alleged that he was set ablaze for not chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ has been turned out to be fake. The Uttar Pradesh Police denied all allegations hinting that the Muslim boy was deliberately set on fire.

It is very appalling to know that Indian media has stooped to a level where they have given a blind eye to the ethics of journalism. Feeding the media house with news, the agencies without knowing the truth have spread news of the Chandauli case where the Muslim boy was set ablaze.

What is the Chandauli Case?

It was reported that a 17-year old Muslim boy Khalid was set burnt for not chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’. But after investigating the case police asserted that the eyewitness saw the Muslim boy set himself on fire. The police said that the boy gave two contradictory statements regarding the incident, both of which were found to be false. Chandauli Police found it suspicious and monitored the CCTV footage where he claimed he was. However, as per the police, he was not found in the CCTV footage.

The police further stated that they checked CCTV footage of all the routes Khalid mentioned in all his statements but they could not see him in any of the locations. The police mentioned that they then went on the direction he had not mentioned in any of his claims. From the CCTV camera of one of the residents, Khalid could be spotted at around 5:15 walking in burnt condition. The eyewitness who saw the boy said that they mistook him for someone who was coming after fishing and was covered in sand.

Hence, it was quite clear there Khalid made up the story to perhaps to wrongly accuse someone. The police said that this appears to be a well thought out conspiracy to give it a communal and religious angle through social media. The police said it will take strict action against anyone who tries to communalise this incident.

Media hovering on paid news:

Without giving a second thought or channelizing the truth of the case, Indian media published the news triggering communal and religious clashes. Intentionally pulling the strings of communal clashes, media has pounded on liberating information which is unhealthy for a secular and democratic country like India. This is not the first time such fake news have been spread but now its time to speak on ‘mob lynching’ which not only categorises one section but humanity as a whole. Let’s speak and come out of the shell where people are not categorised on basis of religion but on injustice on humanity.
