There is provision for providing central assistance/subsidy to states varying from 25% to 100% depending on dairy components has been made under various schemes. As implementation and enforcement of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 primarily lies with State/UT Governments, Commissioners of Food Safety of States/UTs are regularly conducting surveillance and enforcement drives to curb the adulteration in milk and milk products.

Under dairy development programs mainly, National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) and Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund (DIDF), this Department has been assisting dairy cooperatives to strengthen and modernize milk procurement and distribution infrastructure to ensure supply of pure and nutritious milk across the country.
