Esteemed AIR Newsreader Barun haldar Passes Away, President Extends Condolences

Kolkata, July 4: legendary All India Radio’s English newsreader and broadcaster Barun Haldar took his last breath in Kolkata yesterday night at the edge of 88, creating a big vacuum in All India Radio. 
 
Haldar was not well for some time but he succumbed to illness last night. His last rites will be performed after his daughter who stays in Canada arrives in Kolkata.
“Sad to hear of the passing of Barun Haldar, a well-known voice from the golden age of radio and a familiar name for followers of AIR news bulletins. My condolences to his family and to the millions who listened to him with rapt attention,” President Ramnath Kovind expressed grief over his death. 
 
Haldar was a popular presenter of Western Music in AIR Kolkata before shifting to AIR Delhi as English Newsreader. He retired as Chief Newsreader of AIR in 1990.
