Golden Queen! Hima Das Wins 200m Women’s Gold at Poznan Athletics Grand Prix

Warsaw, July 5: Indian Sprinter Hima Das, V. K. Vismaya and shot putter Tajindar Pal Singh Toor hoisted Indian flag at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland. Hima won the women’s 200 metre Gold, while national record holder shot putter Tajinder Toor bagged a Bronze in the event last night. 

 
Hima was playing her first competitive 200m race in this year. She has a personal best of 23.10 seconds which she clocked last year. Asian Champion Toor won the men’s shot put bronze with a best effort of 19.62 metre. His national record while wining Asian games gold last year stands at 20.75 metre. Muhammad Anas, the 400m national record holder, was third in the men’s 200-metre race with a timing of 20.75 seconds. KS Jeevan won the men’s 400-metre bronze in 47.25 seconds. 

 
19-year old Hima Das holds the current Indian National record In 400 metres with a timing of 50.79 seconds that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. She is the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championship. Hima was conferred with Arjuna Award in 2018. She has been appointed as the India’s first ever youth ambassador at UNICEF-India in 2018.
