29 People killed, 24 injured in road accident on Yamuna Expressway in Agra dist

Lucknow, July 8: In the worst mishap, 29 people were killed and 24 injured in a road accident on Yamuna Expressway in Agra district this morning The mishap occurred during wee hours at Jharna Nala in Etmadpur area when a UP Roadways bus skidded off the road and fell into the nullah.


 

Agra DM NG Ravi Kumar said Police and local administration reached on spot and started the rescue operation. He said injured have been admitted to various hospitals. Six injured passengers are in serious condition.

The injured people have been taken to hospital, said the district magistrate. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid his condolences and asked the authorities to give all help to the injured and the families of those killed in the accident, the Chief Minister's Office in Lucknow said.

 

The Uttar Pradesh Roadways has announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation for the families of those who died in the accident.

CM Adityanath has ordered a probe by a committee comprising the transport commissioner, the divisional commissioner, and the inspector general (Agra range) to find out the exact cause of the accident. They will have to give a report within 24 hours. He also sought long-term recommendations to avoid such accidents.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has paid his condolences saying, "Deeply saddened to learn about the loss of lives in a bus accident on Yamuna Expressway near Agra. Condolences to bereaved family members and wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured."
 
PM Narendra Modi has condoled the mishap saying, "Pained by the bus accident in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those injured recover fast. The State Government and local administration are providing all possible assistance to the affected."
