New Delhi, Jul. 8: Today is the loaded day for Karnataka. Many political activities happened in a single day in Karnataka which hung Congress-JD(S) on a thread.

Giving another blow to already weak Karnataka government, Karnataka Minister R Shankar, who had recently joined the Congress party, on Monday resigned from the state cabinet and offered his support to the BJP. Earlier, R Shankar had joined the Congress and became a minister.

Shankar will also be flying to Mumbai from where all the rebel MLAs will be taken to Goa on Monday evening.

According to a press statement, R Shankar met Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala after submitting his resignation letter to Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

As per, the press statement, R Shankar has extended his support to Bharatiya Janata Party.

With R Shankar turning sides, the number of BJP MLAs in Karnataka has gone up to 107. R Shankar is known to switch sides between the Congress and the BJP. It comes as Karnataka government is reeling under crisis with MLAs resigning from the state cabinet left, right and center.

However, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has assured quick resolution of the issue, saying that the Congress-JDS coalition government will run smoothly.

Kumaraswamy said, "The issue will be resolved. Don't worry. This govt will run smoothly."

As drama grips, the state once again, with multiple MLAs having resigned in the past two days and several ministers having resigned to accommodate disgruntled MLAs in the cabinet, there are enough indicators of the incumbent JD(S)-Congress government getting dissolved before it completes its term.

On this whole day drama, BS Yeddyurappa, BJP leader said, “When they lost confidence, they have no moral right to conduct the business. That is why we are demanding that he (CM) resign immediately”.
