It’s Indian talent! Tunlai Narzary clinches gold at World Police & Fire Games

Guwahati, August 14: Assam girl Tunlai Narzary of 20th Assam Police (IR) Battalion, in an absolutely stellar performance, clinched the Gold Medal in Shot Put at the World Police & Fire Games held at Chengdu in China.

 
Tunlai also achieved the feat at a record of 13.83m in women’s shot put. Hailing from Ghilaguri Dotma village in Kokrajhar, Tunlai Nazzary earlier participated at the 22nd Tatyana Kolpakova Memorial International Athletics Meet which was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan recently.
 
Tunlai started her sports career with a 100-m sprinter and later joined the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI)‘s Kokrajhar centre in 2008. Her first international competition was in 2013 when she was named in the Indian contingent for the second South Asian Junior Athletics Championship. 
 
The same year she clinched a gold medal with a throw of 12.09 m in women’s shot put in the National Inter-Zonal Athletics Championship held in Kerala. This was followed by her securing the first position in the East Zone Athletics Championship held in Ranchi. Another recent achievement by Tunlai was a gold medal that she bagged in the shot put at the 1st North East Olympic Games in Manipur in 2018.
