Empowering dual staged single resolution, PM Modi inagurates RuPay debit card in Bhutan, being second after Singapore

New Delhi, August 18: Cementing the extant robust mutual ties and viewing to drag the dual economic relations at a fitter level, Prime Minister narendra Modi while on a two day crucial visit to Bhutan inaugurated the RuPay debit cards. Bhutan being the second country after Singapore where RuPay is slated to be issued, PM Modi said that these could be used by Indian travellers in Bhutan, in a bid to ease tourism in the country.
 
 
Signing nine MoUs and one power purchase agreement between India and Bhutan in the presence of Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering at the Semtokha Dzong on Saturday, India also launched stamps to commemorate five decades of India-Bhutan Hydropower cooperation.
 
"Bhutan is the second country this will be launched in after Singapore. This will be done in two phases where the first phase will be Indian banks will issue RuPay cards. The next phase will be where the banks of Bhutan will be empowered to issue RuPay cards to Bhutanese citizens to use in India”, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale had stated at a presser preceding the PM's visit.
Apart from the MoUs, yesterday the duo inaugurated the Mangdechhu hydroelectric power plant, along with the remote launching of the ISRO-built Ground Station for South Asian Satellite. Further the e-plaque of the interconnection between India's National Knowledge Network and Bhutan's Druk Research and Education Network was also unveiled.
Amongst the MoUs signed meanwhile, at least four are STEM-focused nurturing the standards of science, technology, engineering and math. An MoU has also been signed in the space sector, between ISRO and Bhutan's Department of Information Technology and Telecom.
 
Modi’s visit to Bhutan seems to be a source of major need for development. He arrived at the Paro airport yesterday morning where he was received by the Bhutan Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering and several other ministers.
