Viewing to review overall state of bilateral knots and areas of cooperation, EAM S Jaishankar arrives Nepal on two day crucial visit

Kathmandu, August 21: After a two day crucial visit to Bangladesh, External Affairs Minster S Jaishankar on Wednesday arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for the 5th Joint Commission Meeting where he was welcomed by Foreign Secretary of Nepal Shankar Das Bairagi and Ambassador of Nepal to India Nilamber Acharya.
 
 
I his initial engagements, ahead of the significant meeting with his Nepalese counterpart Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Jaishankar is slated to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
The Commission meanwhile is set to review overall state of bilateral relations and various areas of cooperation. The main focus being on economic partnership, trade and transit, connectivity, power, water resources and inundation, this particular fifth time will see a pathway of honorary relations between the two nations.
India and Nepal further are also slated to discuss the prolonged delay on the part of Indian PM Narendra Modi in receiving the joint report prepared by the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) which was formed earlier to recommend measures to improve mutual relations.
 
The Joint Commission between the two nations was established in June 1987. Its meetings are held alternately in Nepal and India while, the last meeting of the Joint Commission was held in New Delhi in October 2016.
