New Delhi, August 23: Continuing the screenplay stance, fuelling the high voltage drama but CBI and the Supreme Court refusing to attend his performance, the former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, accused in the INX Media case was yesterday left with no option but to listen to the apex and follow the proceedings.

P Chidambaram got arrested on August 21 in the midnight after a complete 24 hours of chase to hide, post High Court’s refusal of the anticipatory bail. The Enforcement Directorate and the CBI had issued a look out notice for the kingpin and was produced in the Supreme Court yesterday for the proceeding.

Kapil Sibal arguing for P Chidambaram in Court said that the accused in this case was Karti Chidambaram who was granted regular bail by the Delhi High Court in March 2018 and that the challenges in Supreme Court were not interfered. “Other accused also got bail. Peter and Indrani Mukerjea on default bail”, he added pointing the court to set Chidambaram free.

Calling it a case of documentary evidence and proving that the former Finance Minister never skipped the interrogation, Sibal said that Chidambara’s arrest was distressing. “Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval is given by 6 government secretaries, none have been arrested”, he said turning flagrant.

Landing more accusations over the dignified agency Sibal said that last night CBI demanded to interrogate Chidambaram, they didn't start the interrogation till 12 noon and asked him only 12 questions. “By now they should know what questions to ask. The questions had nothing to do with Chidambaram”, he added trying to turn the proceeding up side down.

But having failed so, Sibal and his team had to cease their baseless utterance after the CBI responded to each and every claim. Beginning the said argument, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta arguing for CBI in Court moved an application seeking five day custody of P Chidambaram for the investigation purpose. The CBI further said that the agency had issued a non bailable warrant based on which the arrest was made.

Further calling it a classic case of money laundering, as it is, Mehta said that right to silence was constitutional right and that the agency had no issue, “But Chidambaram was non cooperative, he was evasive to questioning”, he said.

Meanwhile Chidambaram standing for himself said that pleaded the Court to look at the questions and answers. “There are no question which I have not answered, please read the transcript. They asked, if I have bank account abroad, I said no, they asked if my son has an account abroad I said yes”, he begged to with the court ordered him to be in his position, that of the offender probably. After the arguable proceeding the judge moved up announcing CBI custody to the novel economic absconder till August 26.
