New Delhi, August 23: Progress of India doesn’t require only intelligence but physical fitness too. Health of the nation eventually depends on health of its citizens. Keeping this in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch ‘Fit India Movement’ on Thursday, August 29, next week. The nation-wide campaign aims to encourage people to inculcate physical activity and sports in their everyday lives.

The Government has formed a 28-member committee headed by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju to advise the government on the movement. It has 12 members from the government, including secretaries of Sports, Secondary Education, Ayush, Youth Affairs, among others. IOA President and seven NSF heads, including those of boxing, athletics, football and cycling, are also part of the committee.
The committee also includes representatives of private bodies and persons including Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), ASSOCHAM India, FICCI, as well as actors Shilpa Shetty and Milind Soman.
“I am happy to be on the advisory committee of the Fit India movement envisaged by our Honourable PM. Hoping to lend my support in finding fun, easy ways to make every Indian fit and making this movement/vision a success,” said Shilpa Shetty thanking the government for appointing her on the committee.

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated Shilpa for her appointment saying, “You inspire millions with your fitness regime. You can effectively amplify Fit India movement. With some commitment & motivation, one can easily maintain fitness. When we are fit we feel strong in mind & body!"
