New Delhi, August 24: Deeply saddened by the passing away of a great astute leader, Arun Jaitley, the Indian players as a mark of respect will be wearing a black armband when they take the field to play against West Indies. As the entire nation came forward and offered their last respects to Arun Jaitley, even the cricket board (BCCI) that heads Team India also came forward to pay tribute to the late BJP leader.

The Indian team will come out wearing black armbands in order to pay respects to the BJP leader, who was loved and respected by one and all. A senior BCCI functionary said that while treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry proposed the idea, it was immediately supported by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and CEO Rahul Johri.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came forward and offered their last respects to Arun Jaitley. Taking to their official Twitter handle, BCCI condoled the sad demise of Shri Arun Jaitley. The BCCI also shared the pain and grief of the Jaitley family and prayed for the departed soul.

The Indian team is currently playing West Indies in the two-match Test series in the Caribbean, with the first test being contested in North Sound, Antigua. Arun Jaitley was a vice president of BCCI and president of DDCA during his long political career and held the finance portfolios in the first Narendra Modi government from 2014-2019. His ill health forced to not contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 and didn’t take up a ministerial post in the cabinet.
